Backyard Gardening Fun: Part 2
The first part of our backyard garden adventure is recapped here. Part Two begins in June and this is when things get really exciting. All the seeds we planted have sprouted! Peas on the left, beans on the right.
JUNE 1, 2018
In this long shot you can see the tops of beets rising in the middle box. Carrots were just a few days away from surfacing in the third (top) box.
Pepper Alley is doing well. Hard to believe most have doubled in height.
Beyond the peppers, our cukes and zukes are expanding out underneath the ladders.
We've caged the tomatoes to give them structural support, because they're going to need it later down the road when they're heavy and laden with fruit.
I put the super thick gauged cage around the cherry tomato plant because the one we planted last year turned into a massive, sprawling giant of a bush. If this one turns out the same, it's going to need hardcore scaffolding.
The herb and strawberry garden is very tidy and happy as well.
And then fast forward to mid-June. Our little plant babies are growing up so fast.
Pepper plants have again, doubled in height. The bell peppers at the bottom of the photo are flowering.
Tomato plants have reached the second and third run of the cages.
The Sun Sugar cherry tomato is brimming over the top of the cage. This thing's going to be a beast of a plant.
JULY 1, 2018
July 1st is here, and the summer sun is giving life to everything in the garden. The green beans have somehow magically exploded overnight. The peas are weirdly clinging to the net fence.
Carrot tops are popping.
We got the beets.
And we have peppers! Lots of little baby bell peppers and some tiny jalapeños. No word yet from the super hot peppers at the far end.
We spent the weekend at the beach and came back home to this jungle of cucumbers and zucchini. How is that even possible?
You can see the beginnings of zucchini down at the base of the plant.
Neglected to mention that we planted sunflower seeds in this narrow little bed along the fence. They've sprouted up and are reaching for the sky.
Fruits and veggies everywhere, coming up next in Part 3!
